Inventory Audit Log Help Center
Setup and frequently asked questions
Learn how the first baseline, reason notes, filters, CSV exports, and data handling work.
Setup
01
Install the app
Recording starts with inventory changes Shopify sends after installation. History from before installation is not imported.
02
Wait for the first record
The first quantity has no earlier value to compare, so it is stored as a baseline. The next change shows the previous quantity, new quantity, and delta.
03
Add a reason and note
Use Edit reason on a row to choose stocktake, received, returned, damaged/disposed, correction, transfer, or other, and add an optional note.
Baseline and delta
A baseline is the quantity observed when recording begins. It does not indicate an error or change. A delta can be calculated after the next notification for the same inventory item and location. You do not need to alter live inventory only to test the app.
An empty list does not by itself mean the connection has failed. No inventory change may have arrived yet. The app records changes Shopify sends and cannot reconstruct an event that was not delivered.
Weekly stocktake workflow
- 1.Choose a date range and location, then filter by the SKU or product with a discrepancy.
- 2.Show records without a reason and add the confirmed cause and a note.
- 3.On Pro, export the current filtered results to CSV and share them with inventory or accounting staff.
View a CSV sample
The sample uses fictional products and quantities. Actual exports include a UTF-8 BOM and are limited to 10,000 rows per export.
CSVTroubleshooting
A quantity changed but no row appears
Wait a few seconds and reload. Product and location names may also take a short time to fill in. Confirm that the variant is tracking inventory.
The first row has no delta
This is expected. The first observation after installation is the baseline; the next change shows a delta.
I cannot use the CSV button
CSV export and access to all saved history are Pro features. Recording and storage continue on Free, and earlier saved records become visible after upgrading.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from Shopify history?
The app stores post-install changes across products and locations, lets you add a category and free-text note later, and lets Pro users share filtered results as CSV.
Does it identify who made a change?
No. It records when, where, and by how much inventory changed, plus reasons and notes you add later. Use Shopify's Created by column when you need attribution.
Are older records deleted on Free?
No. Free shows the latest 30 days, but recording and storage continue. Pro reveals all saved history.
What happens after uninstalling?
Store-related data is deleted within 48 hours. Export any records you need before uninstalling.
Does it access customer or order data?
No. It only reads inventory, products, locations, and store locales.
If the issue remains, email [email protected] with your store URL, the time of the issue, and the affected SKU or product. Do not send customer data.
